Ray Esparsen_ArtistOne snowy winter eve in the year 1972 I decided that making art was going to be what I would dedicate my life toward. I figured making art objects would be a grand adventure one that would last the entirety of my life or till I grew old and feeble. That was a long time ago and I've not forgotten the dream nor neglected my responsibilities. Five decades have passed and many an image has eclipsed my dream. Today as I grow older and keep feebleness at bey, I'm reminded of the eternal timekeeper as it takes another day. The reality is that I'm not saddened nor is my resolve dimmed because I see and comprehend the world as beautiful and my life's breath as a finite gift.  For me creating art is much like a prayer. It's a way of giving thanks or seeking to activate a connection into a life where spirituality is front and center.  So clearly creating art is a way of connecting with the mysteries of life. Art and its application help's me appreciate how my inner and outer life is built upon the labors of my fellow human beings both living and dead. From the standpoint of daily life, I realize how earnestly I must exert myself in order to give in return as much as I have received.

In abbreviated description my works of art serve as visual manifestation of contemporary culture,  Ultimately what I create is a personification of reason, passion, emotion, intuition, and logic. The compulsion towards creativity impressed itself upon me and has always consoled when I have witnessed and suffered the hate of racial discrimination and life hardships. As a child of indigenous root, I was taught that tolerance for the mind of eccentric individualists, regardless of eccentricity was the key to learning and by extinction my freedom. Today I understand that the most beautiful moments one can experience is the presences of the sublime. That simple axiom and unassuming declaration continues to guide my life and leads me to believe in the ideals of goodness, beauty, love, and art as absolutely necessary for the orderliness of life.
