Retablo #12 is one of seven works of art that I designed with the intinction of addressing a political narrative. The title of Retablo #12 “Prayers for A Hateful Pilgrim”. bags the question; is it possible to change the maid-set of a person that believes their spiritual and material well being has been preordained? One example of such maid-set is the de-bunk concept of manifest destiny. Indigenous people and pre-Columbian inhabitants of North and South America and my ancestral descendants continue to ask, is it possible to enlighten a person that believes they are superior in intellect and that god has appointed them a superior race? Secure within the fortress of divine rights and racial superiority is the proposition that all non-white people are inferior.

Retablo #12 Prayers for A Hateful Pilgrim”. is an act of courage and faith. A visual sign of an enraptured heart, small, humble, an unassuming. Retablo #12 is a raw form of earthly prayer, A prayer of searching for other mortals that can stand in grace and work for social equality.
